I am having an issue with the freighter people being part of Widmore. So bear with me as I talk it out who is who.
First we have the others, who may not of been the original island denziens. Probably were offspring of the Black Rock crew, but not certain.
Second, there was probably a group of four toed people on the island many decades/centuries ago. They may of met their demise with the arrival of a band of pirates, or died out of smokey inhalation.
Thirdly, we have Dharma who came to the island to research its unique properties, but didn't get along with the others. The others did a purge of most of the Dharma people, taking control of the island back, with the exception of one station. That one station continued to operate and continued to receive supply shipments until very recently.
Fourthly, we have the survivors of flight 815 who happened to drop in without a proper invitation, at least not one from the others.
Fifthly, we have Widmore Corp in the side wings without any clear connection to the island. We do have Penny Widmore, heiress to the firm, calling on secret Dharma frequencies to The Looking Glass, but disavowing any knowledge of a freighter, or even to whom she was calling.
Sixthly, we have the freighter and the insertion team going onto the island in what they describe as a covert ops. Covert ops being a term normally employed by government agencies, not corporations. Even so, the team and entity behind it has intimate knowledge of Dharma workings, protocol, experiments, and even traitorous ex-employees.
Because of Penny not knowing about the freighter, I somehow doubt that Widmore is behind the covert ops team. If it is part of any of the groups we've already know about, then I'd think that it would most likely be part of Dharma. If not Dharma, then some new group or splinter government agency that is not operating with the full knowledge of the agency director.
Whatcha think? _________________ Shuttin' Down The Elitists |

I have always believed that Dharma and Widmore are connected. I'm also not so sure that certain corporations would not initiate Covert Operations - Blackwater anyone??
As for Penny - I have this weird gut feeling that she will end up being loyal to her father and not Desmond.
She sent the incoming transmission directly to a Dharma built station - the Looking Glass, yet denied knowing Naomi or the freighter.
Yet the freighter seems to be there for Ben. Why? Well - Ben did kill the Dharma Initiative so it would make some sense that they may be Dharma.
What if Penelope was loyal to Desmond UNTIL he turned the failsafe and changed the past - then she was loyal to her father. |

ok. what if the head penguins of each corporation went rogue and began their own little "amazing race." then we've got others coming out of our unofficial blowholes. i actually think the groups are constantly evolving and swapping among ideals. even the "losties" are splintering- and many times over. jack and juliet against the world, locke and half the scoobies going one direction, jaTE and some scoobies doing something else. . . new people coming to craphole spa and resorts for anything but the-great-rescue-that-wasn't and spirits from the peek-a-boo dimension rearing their uglies whenever the storyline gets too logical. it's a bloody free for all and there are way too many cooks in the kitchen. which adds flavor but also brings the confusion. and i, for one, refuse to live in a world where penny is "among them but not of them." _________________
